The Iyengar method

Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of the living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar, author of the classic yoga treatise Light on Yoga, who began teaching in Pune, India, in 1936 at the age of 18.

Today, at 93, he continues to teach and inspire students all over the world. His daughter, Geeta, and his son, Prashant, are also accomplished teachers and authors of yoga texts.

The Iyengar family’s teachings are deeply grounded in the yoga sutras of Patanjali, an ancient summation of the path of yoga considered to be at least 2,500 years old. B.K.S. Iyengar’s intense practice and almost seventy years of teaching have produced significant innovations in the teaching of the art and science of yoga. Therapeutic creative writing method

Once, during one of Sasha Perugini’s book presentations, a woman in the audience asked, “I write a lot, but what I write is personal to me and always negative. When does one’s writing of this kind become interesting to others? When can it be shared? And, why should I share it?”

This workshop is an opportunity to make friends with our personal difficulties and learn to find refuge in our own words when nothing else seems to be working. Creative writing is therapy for the soul and body, a digestive process of pain. We can talk about our difficulties and our frustrations with our friends, with our psychologist, with our hair stylist. However, we can also transform our difficulties into a poem, a short story, a novel or a song. And, we can decide to share this with others.

The idea behind this seminar was born out of the presenters’ (Sasha and Amy) own personal and professional experiences. Time after time, both have experienced that pain can be re-visited and transformed into something powerful, beautiful and reassuring. Everyone has images of film episodes, memories of phrases in songs, poignant book passages that cut right through to the heart and open up the direct channel to communication from pure emotion. In this workshop we work to open up these channels.

How?

A series of exercises to stimulate introspection and written expression will be presented, focusing on ideas on how to explore your inner potential and resources that we all have and which enable us to handle life’s difficulties and pain. This is an opportunity to explore your own most intimate words; words you love, words you fear, words never said but that continue to echo in your mind for entire days at a time. Participants can choose whether or not to share their writing during the seminar. A part of the seminar will emphasize the therapeutic quality in writing and how to utilize this and a part will be dedicated to actual writing techniques, with concrete examples.
